Legs Without A Face

Yesterday I met with my brand new personal trainer Dung Tran, and he challenged me to pick out a photo of a woman’s body I would realistically like to have.  We talked a lot about self motivation and visualization, which all made perfect sense to me, so I went home on a mission.
After about 3 hours of scanning awesome female bodies (Victoria’s Secret, Shape Magazine, etc), I shut off my computer and felt discouraged. First of all, all the bodies I admired were half my age (yeah, I am starting to “get” what guys see) AND the few “older” women bodies I came across were all covered up so I really couldn’t SEE what they had going on. So when I came across the legs without a face pic, I totally identified with it.  So needless to say, I am still trying to find my inspiration.  How DO middle aged women find body role models? It’s tougher than you would think. I know a TON of amazing looking 40 something women, but most of them have paid good money for their hot bods.  Sure, if I had the money for plastic surgery, a personal chef and top notch spa treatments, I am sure I could kick it with the “Real Housewives of the OC”, but alas that is so NOT the case.  It’s going to be an uphill battle to undo the changes my body has experienced over the past 10 years, and I am already feeling the lack of motivation prior to even getting started, lol. So I am turning to all of you…who in their late 30′s and beyond do you see as an excellent role model for fitness and well-being. I think I am going to need some hand holding along the way…HELP!

Interesting…do you choose to be vegan or vegetarian along with your yoga practice? I have always felt intimidated by yoga, but probably because I couldn’t pose like the rest of the class. I may have to give it another look.
Thanks for the kind insight Cherie.

I practice yoga. After dealing with my body issues I finally came to this conclusion. Yoga will not give me the body I want. Yoga will give me the body I was meant to have. I have learned to embrace my hips, slightly heavy breasts, stretch marks and cellulite.

In theory I agree with you Suki, but I am a realist…and the REALITY is that if I was happy with the woman staring back at me in the mirror physically, I wouldn’t be trying to work with a trainer to begin with. I agree that self image needs to be based on self acceptance, but I think a woman can love herself and still acknowledge that she’s out of shape. This is where I come in. I like me, just not my lack of tone. #CatFight?

I choose not to have role models for this reason. I look up to myself. Why shouldn’t I be inspirational? If I have to look up to others, there’s a problem. I should seek comfort in knowing I’m enough and that I’m happy with the woman staring back at me in the mirror. :)
